Will Certain Foods Impact The Functioning of My Thyroid?

Foods certainly can impact the functioning of your thyroid. It all depends on the person as to what foods will help or hurt your thyroid.
A lot of resources online will say that dark leafy greens such as Kale or Collard Greens can decrease the performance of your thyroid. However, these vegetables are so good for you and rich in antioxidants that they can actually help protect your thyroid.
What we are more worried about when it comes to the food you consume and your thyroid is each individual’s food sensitivity; the foods that cause an inflammatory response after consuming.
An inflammatory response can have a profound impact on a thyroid. When a person consumes food that causes their body to have an inflammatory reaction, it causes higher stress on the body as a whole. That stress then creates a cortisol cascade. This is when cortisol levels reverse and stops good active thyroid production. Instead of the hormone T3 turning into a T4, which is what you want, those cortisol levels can actually reverse T4 hormones back into T3, which can stop the thyroid from working properly.
At The Epigenetics Healing Center, we will advise you to be aware and address any food sensitivities you may have to prevent the inflammatory responses that could damage thyroid functionality. Contact us if you would like to discuss any food sensitivities you may have and how to address them for proper thyroid functionality.

How Does Thyroid Function Affect Women and Men Reproductive Systems?

“Thyroid function in relationship to men’s and women’s reproductive systems is pretty clear,” says Dr. Goodbinder. If you have a hyperthyroid, this can lead to an increase in the number of fat cells you are putting on.
Fat cells are endocrine glands, which create hormones. This is where the thyroid can affect change on both men and women’s reproductive systems.
As the amount of fat that we have on our bodies increase, we begin to produce more of the estrogen hormone. For men, this possibly means growing breasts and becoming more feminized.
For women, several problems from higher than normal estrogen levels may arise; problems that arise can be: proliferative tissue on the uterus, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibrocystic breast disease, and even breast cancer, uterus cancer and ovarian cancer.
