We have had children as young as a year old, even 8 months old, come in here and get help. It’s never too early to get your child into the Epigenetic’s Healing Center or Functional Medicine.
The sooner you do it, the easier it is for your child to have a healthy life. If you don’t start early, gene and cellular mutations can happen to cause potentially negative effects on your child for the rest of their lives.
What is a Gene or Cellular Mutation?
A gene mutation is a permanent alteration in the DNA sequence that makes up a gene, such that the sequence differs from what is found in most people. Mutations range in size; they can affect anywhere from a single DNA building block (base pair) to a large segment of a chromosome that includes multiple genes.
Gene mutations can be classified in two major ways:
- Hereditary mutations are inherited from a parent and are present throughout a person’s life in virtually every cell in the body. These mutations are also called germline mutations because they are present in the parent’s egg or sperm cells, which are also called germ cells.
- Acquired (or somatic) mutations occur at some time during a person’s life and are present only in certain cells, not in every cell in the body. These changes can be caused by environmental factors or can occur if an error is made as DNA copies itself during cell division. Acquired mutations in somatic cells (cells other than sperm and egg cells) cannot be passed to the next generation.
Somatic mutations can happen at any point of your life dependant on hundreds of factors. Combatting these from an early age can ensure that your child has a great head start on lifelong health.
By starting with a functional wellness plan from the beginning, you can create good habits for life. By just attending the Epigenetic’s Healing Center for your own wellbeing, you’ll pick up on tips and habits yourself that you’re bound to not only pass on to your offspring, but, also share with your friends to help them on their own success to a healthy life.
How do Mutations Happen?
Most disease-causing gene mutations are uncommon in the general population. However, other genetic changes occur more frequently. Polymorphisms are responsible for many of the normal differences between people such as eye color, hair color, and blood type. Although many polymorphisms have no negative effects on a person’s health, some of these variations may influence the risk of developing certain disorders including:
- Anxiety or Depression
- Asthma
- Autoimmune Diseases
- Chronic Fatigue / Low Energy
- Crohn’s Disease
- Diabetes II
- Fibromyalgia
- Hashimoto’s
- High Cholesterol
- Hypothyroid
- Parkinson’s
- Psoriatic Arthritis
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
