Carnivore Diet Exposed: Miracle or Mistake?

The carnivore diet has exploded in popularity, with countless testimonials claiming rapid weight loss, reduced bloating, and increased energy. But is it truly the miracle many believe or a dietary mistake waiting to happen?

Dr. Goodbinder’s Insights

“You’re a human being. You’re not a carnivore, you’re not an herbivore. You are an omnivore. Now this matters, because a lot of people will tell you, ‘I feel amazing on carnivore. I’ve never felt so good. My bloat is gone, I’m leaner.’ People on plant-based diets say the same thing. What’s happened is simple: when you cut out processed junk, your body feels better.”

Dr. Goodbinder warns that short-term benefits can mask serious issues. Laboratory testing often reveals low short-chain fatty acids, especially butyrate, signaling compromised gut health. Beneficial gut bacteria may decline, reducing support for brain and immune function. White blood cell counts can drop, leaving the body more vulnerable. Over time, essential nutrient deficiencies can develop, and reintroducing fruits or vegetables may trigger bloating as gut microbiota struggle to recover.

“Carnivore is not the right diet. If you live in a world of unprocessed fruit, vegetables and meat, you’ll be sufficient. You’ll be healthy. Your inflammation will decrease. We’re not going to live in a dogmatic world where only we eat plants or only we only eat meat. You’re an omnivore. If you want to be the healthiest person in the planet, you do human sufficiency.”

Eat Smart, Not Extreme

Focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, and quality meats. Aim for variety rather than extreme restrictions: don’t cut out all vegetables or all meat.

This approach supports gut health, reduces inflammation, and provides a broad range of nutrients for sustainable, balanced health.
