Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Kansas City, MO

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established therapy to help heal the body and mind.

What Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized enclosure known as a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established therapy to help heal the body and mind. It is beneficial for brain dysfunction, inflammatory disorders, and conditions where tissue healing is needed. The therapy method has been used for hundreds of years with its modern-day form taking shape in the 1950s.

Hyperbaric oxygen chambers are a safe and effective means for addressing both acute and chronic conditions. This therapy is widely known as a primary treatment for individuals suffering from decompression sickness and carbon monoxide poisoning. However, as more research has been conducted surrounding this therapy, numerous other health benefits have been noted.

At The Epigenetics Healing Center, we use hyperbaric oxygen therapy as part of our package of functional medicine treatments and is recommended for some conditions in the Life Restoration Program. We have seen quality of life improve for individuals that suffer from a variety of conditions with the help of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?

In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased from 1.5 to 3x that of normal, everyday air pressure. The pressure of the pure oxygen in the chamber is similar to being about 33 to 45 feet below sea level. When you’re using the chamber, you’re breathing near pure oxygen — this is compared to normal air which contains only 21 percent oxygen.

Under high purity pressurized oxygen, your lungs gather more oxygen than would ever be possible breathing oxygen at normal air pressures. Your blood carries this extra oxygen throughout your body helping fight bad bacteria, promote better blood flow, and reduce swelling. Additionally, time in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber helps to stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promotes overall healing, particularly in tissues.

There are a few things to keep in mind regarding hyperbaric oxygen chambers and patient safety. When using these types of therapies, don’t forget to refrain from using any electronics (cell phones, smart watches, tablets or laptops), remove all jewelry if possible, and wear all/mostly cotton clothing to allow for optimum comfort and oxygen absorption.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Benefits

The medical community continues to explore the treatment uses of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. As oxygen plays a critical role in normal bodily function, when oxygen deficiencies exist, the body fails to operate in its most effective state. With more oxygen at hand, your red blood cells are able to deliver greater amounts of oxygen to areas of the body that are lacking — ultimately, helping fight bacteria, promote better blood flow, and reduce internal swelling. The purpose of this type of therapy is to give your body what it needs to heal itself. As a holistic and non-invasive treatment method, hyperbaric oxygen therapy offers individuals choice over their healing and body optimization options.

First-time users will meet with a member of our medical staff to learn more about your unique situation. Then our medical staff will help with recommended usage based on the specific benefits you are wanting to receive. The more sessions spent in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, the richer the benefits you receive from the oxygen. The increase in oxygen circulation stimulates new blood vessels to form in the body’s tissues, leading to new collagen and skin cell production. Additionally, it helps tissues resist infection and increases the white blood cell’s ability to find and eliminate foreign threats.

This amount of oxygen used properly and regularly can speed up healing as much as five times, depending on the person and condition. Using this hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help improve nearly any condition that is impacted by the body’s ability to self-heal. Some conditions that can improve through the use of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy include:

Here are some direct benefits from using hyperbaric oxygen therapies:

● Hyperoxygenation: increased oxygen into the bloodstream, including the lymphatic and cerebrospinal fluid (fluid around brain and spinal cord). Increasing blood flow and oxygen to your cerebrospinal fluid helps with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism, traumatic brain injury, and PTSD.

● Anti-inflammation: constricts blood vessels to allow less leakage of fluid which decreases swelling.

● Antimicrobial: improves the immune system by weakening infection causing bacteria, while increasing our natural antioxidants and free radical scavengers (our ability to fight disease and infection).

● Neovasculation: stimulates the growth of new blood vessels, which increases circulation even after you have finished.

● Stem cell mobilization: while we already have stem cells in the body this increases stem cell circulation. Stem cells have the unique ability to differentiate into any type of tissue and grow new tissue, making them very valuable.

● Mitochondrial support: the mitochondria are the batteries of our cells, generating adenosine triphosphate, or ATP. ATP is the chemical that stores and releases energy necessary for many cellular processes and is the main energy source for our body, optimizing cellular energy production.

When you come into The Epigenetics Healing Center, we will address your health concerns and conditions and decide if hyperbaric oxygen therapy is right for you.

What To Expect Inside a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber

Our KC hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy is safe and non-invasive. It is performed in an outpatient setting and does not require hospitalization. We have three hyperbaric chambers present in our clinic office. There is little preparation needed before treatment. However, some necessary items include:

  • Alcohol and carbonated drinks should be avoided for at least four hours prior to treatment
  • Smokers should abstain from smoking
  • Eating a little food before is encouraged to help maintain blood sugar levels
  • No fire hazards or battery-powered objects are allowed inside the chamber (vapes, lighters, etc.)
  • Avoid the hyperbaric chamber if experiencing sinus issues or infection

A hyperbaric oxygen therapy session will typically last 90 minutes. It takes 15 minutes to build the ideal pressure, one hour spent in an ideal pressure environment, and 15 minutes to bring the chamber pressure down. During your session in the chamber, you may experience some mild symptoms related to increased air pressure. The increased air pressure can cause your ears to experience a temporary feeling of fullness. This is similar to the same feeling when flying and climbing altitude. Yawning, chewing, or swallowing can help relieve the discomfort.

At The Epigenetics Healing Center, we are here to help guide patients with hyperbaric oxygen therapy usage or simply support patients in their own wants regarding our services. No matter the condition, our clinic is dedicated to optimizing your health!

Cancer Success Story With the Help Of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

gail-hyperbaric-success

Gail Collins thought 2017 was going to be her best year. Unfortunately, life took an unexpected turn. Rather than experiencing the best year of her life, she ended up learning that she had two different types of cancer in both of her breasts.

She went through all the necessary education from her oncologists and decided against their recommendations to go through chemotherapy and radiation. After making her decision independently, she came to The Epigenetics Healing Center and told Dr. Goodbinder about the choice she had made.

Gail understood that Dr. Goodbinder was not promising that he was going to make her better. He told her that she was going to heal herself and that he would be there to support her along the way. Gail says she was drawn to Dr. Goodbinder’s commitment to finding the underlying cause of the problem rather than prescribing a harsh treatment or medication to treat the issue.

She decided with her husband that she would participate in Dr. Goodbinder’s program. As part of the program, she had time in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and participated in the educational classes that taught her how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Today, she thanks God for the blessing of her time at The Epigenetics Healing Center and is proud to say that she is now cancer-free and plans to stay cancer-free.
